Board Director and Board Committee Chair
Fazilah is a Board Director for the Brenda Strafford Foundation, a prominent not-for-profit organization established in Calgary over 30 years ago. The foundation focuses on four key areas: aging care, specialized medical services in the Caribbean, local community supports, and research. As the Board Committee Chair for specialized medical services and local community supports, Fazilah brings over four years of dedicated service to the board. With over seven years of experience on other not-for-profit boards, she provides strategic oversight and leadership to drive impactful initiatives. (2020 - Present)

Understanding Media Influence: An exploration of adolescent development
Fazilah shared insights as a guest lecturer for a graduate psychology class. During the session, she delved into the crucial topic of media's impact on adolescent development, offering valuable perspectives and practical tools for clinicians. She explored strategies to facilitate meaningful conversations between parents and adolescents in navigating this complex terrain. This was a wonderful opportunity to empower future psychologists with knowledge and skills to address contemporary challenges in adolescent psychology. In this presentation to fellow mental health professionals, Fazilah shared the links between relational disquiet and anti-oppressive practices.

This conference will focus on different kinds and sources of relational disquiet and how systemic family therapy practitioners might enable its potential generativity, a generativity that promotes healing and wellness, and also aims towards the kinds of collaboration that adds liveliness to life. Using Creative Family Therapy Techniques When Working with Children and Adolescents
Public speaking is something that Fazilah really enjoys! As Guest Lecturer at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Social Work, she talked to clinical students about using creative family therapy techniques when working with children and adolescents. More specifically, how playfulness can be used a therapeutic tool when working with kids within the family therapy context. (June 2023)
